Wonder what is happening with Seven and their new golf coverage. I'm referring to an article that appeared in the Wednesday edition of the Melbourne Herald Sun that made reference to them havin to pull a story on free-lance commentator, Sandra Mackenzie-Wood.
It seems that Sandra was all scheduled to be part of Seven's commentary team for the Women's Australian Open now under way at Yarra Yarra. But she has been dropped from the commentary team as she was also scheduled to do something on the Ten network.
I can understand Seven's position if they had Sandra under contract, but cannot understand their position if they are only using her as a free-lance commentator.
Looks like this is the example of Seven wanting it all without their giving anything.
Sandra is probably one of this country's best golfing commentators. She has played the Ladie's Golf Tour in her "younger" days before settling down with radio personality, Gavin Wood, and starting to raise their family (two wonderful boys at home).
Her commentary on the ABC and the more recent Ten coverage in Queensland has demonstrated her proficency on-camera plus her knowledge and experience of the game.
So why is Seven carrying on like this? Why don't they just offer her a real contract and move her onto their sporting team.... she would be a wonderful asset for all sports, not only golf.
Care to comment on this, Seven?
