Seven Network Buys Australia TVFriday 11 July 1997 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
SYDNEY, Australia, 97/07/10 (TS) -- Australia's Seven Network commercial TV network has bought the loss making Australia Television from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). The cost of the deal was not disclosed. The new service was begun several years ago but recently faced closure or severe cut backs as the government reduced the budget of the ABC.
Seven Network already runs Seven Network Asia, available in some nations in the region, and the purchase of Australia Television will help the broadcaster increase its influence in Asia, it said.

It looks like this is another step closer to bringing together the network with the cable services. Just remember who sits on the Seven Board.
