SBS's Insight program have uncovered a major health controversy involving airplanes, and the people who fly on them in a special report screening on Thursday, 11 March at 8.00pm (7.30pm Adelaide).
A mystery illness is affecting a small, but growing number of flight attendants who travel regularly on a quite common and popular small jet - the British Aerospace 146.
Over the past few years, there have been hundreds of complaints of engine oil fumes entering the cabin, causing discomfort to crews and passengers alike.
There are reports of dizziness, nausea, vomiting, irritated eyes and nose, and a range of other problems.
Insight reveals that more than 60 flight attendants are currently being excused from flying the planes on medical grounds, and several others are claiming compensation for long-term health problems.
Despite that, the planes are continuing to fly, the public is not being kept informed, and there are calls for a thorough public inquiry.
Insight reveals that the problem is an international one, having occurred in other countries, and on other types of plane as well.
Despite claims that the oil fumes are not toxic, the health problems continue to surface.
