Productions by SBS Independent, including 'The Boys', 'Radiance' and the TV documentary 'Hephzibah', scooped the pool at the 1998 Film Critics Circle of Australia, presented in Sydney last Friday evening, February 12.
'The Boys' dominated the awards, taking out Best Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay.
In the Best Australian Documentary category, all three finalists were SBS Independant documentaries. 'Hephzibah' won this category, beating 'After Mabo' and 'Our Park'.
Hephzibah's director Curtis Levy praised SBSI in accepting his award at the Critics Circle Awards. "SBSI doesn't go for a traditional approach to documentary. It is not impeded by being safe, it encourages innovation and risk taking."
