Comedy Honorees Announced
Hollywood is getting ready to honor this year's American Comedy Honorees. According to Variety's Army Archerd, the honorees include Candice Bergen, Kelsey Grammer, Cybill Shepherd, Roseanne, Keenen Ivory Wayans and Tim Conway. The Fox network will produce a two-hour show on the fete Aug. 23 at the Beverly Hilton.
Elliott Gould Keeping Busy
Variety reports Elliott Gould is keeping busy with a slew of movies and his recent guest slot on the hit TV series "Friends." Gould is about to appear in three independent pictures -- "Hotel Shanghai," "Kicking and Screaming" and "Doggin' Around" -- and has just signed on for two studio releases. These are New Line's "American History X," and TriStar's "The Big Hit." Among Gould's other feature credits are "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice," for which he was nominated for an Oscar; "MASH," "California Split," "Bugsy" and "Getting Straight."
Brolin on Barbra's Standards
Apparently, veteran TV actor James Brolin (star of "Hotel" and co-star of "Marcus Welby, M.D.") acknowledged recently that his production standards aren't quite as high as his fiancee's. Refering to his betrothed, Barbra Streisand, Brolin said, "Part of Barbra's whole career has been her incredible taste." When asked if Streisand would be helping out behind the scenes on his new TV show, Brolin said he doubted it -- for just the very reason he had mentioned.
Elvis Popular Overseas
More than 400 million copies of Elvis Presley albums have been sold outside of the U.S., executives at his record label tell Variety. The industry record tally was unveiled this week as part of ceremonies launching Graceland's Elvis Week, which commemorates the 20th anniversary of the King's death. Retailers are also preparing for the anniversary by beefing up inventory of Elvis discs and creating sales events to go along with the release by RCA Records of a four-CD box set dubbed "Elvis Presley Platinum: A Life In Music."
