Rachel Griffiths, the Australian actor nominated for an Academy Award for last year's Hilary and Jackie, is burying herself in television.

Griffiths will play the female lead in the new series Six Feet Under, written and directed by Alan Ball, writer of American Beauty. Production is due to commence this week.

Aside from Hilary and Jackie, Griffiths' film credits include Muriel's Wedding, Cosi and My Best Friends Wedding. The actor has just finished filming the upcoming movie Blow alongside Johnny Depp.
