Pokemon - The MovieWednesday 30 June 1999 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
Is Pokemon (shown here on 10) taking over the world? In much the same tradition as Attila the Hun, Joan of Arc, and any number of gelatinous blobs, these curious little animated creatures seem to be eating up everything in their path.
The highly successful Saturday cartoon was morphed into the film Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back and became the smash hit in Japan last year. Now, it's coming our way this November. For those of you who have been in Brazil trying to save the rain forests for the last decade, Pokemon are an odd race of creatures that have certain strengths and weaknesses, and can be harmless pets or fearless fighters. They prefer to be let outside, but will doodie in a litter box if necessary (this part is so untrue). The story follows Ash, a 10-year-old boy, and his Pokemon pal Pikachu, on a quest to gather as many Pokemon as possible.
Warner Brothers will distribute the film, which the studio expects to do huge numbers over the holiday season. Expect to be inundated with marketing.
