Rapper-turned-underwear model-turned-actor Mark Wahlberg has agreed to star in director Tim Burton's update of the sci-fi monkey classic, Planet of the Apes.

Released in 1968, the original starred Charlton Heston as an astronaut marooned on a world inhabited by Apes lording over enslaved humans. The movie became an instant cult classic, which was followed by four sequels.

Wahlberg has signed a two-picture deal, covering the remake and a potential sequel.
