The revamped People's Choice Awards saw host station, Channel 7, win a
swag of awards last Friday night. Lisa McCune, a competent host, lacked the showbiz
flair for the role of M.C. but again proved she is the most popular person on Australian
television by winning the major award.
- THUMBS UP to the producers for delivering a classy awards night without arrogant
and ignorant overseas guests.
- THUMBS DOWN to the producers for not supplying more alcohol to loosen those stiff
tuxedos.
- THUMBS UP to the clever script-writers for the comedy skits that linked the
awards, particularly The House from Hell send-up with the film critics.
- THUMBS DOWN to Russell Crowe for his sleazy moves on Terasa
Livingstone.
- THUMBS UP to Naomi Robson from Today Tonight for glamming up
and showing some cleavage.
- THUMBS DOWN to the old duck from Keeping Up Appearances, who seemed
to think she was delivering the Queen's Christmas Message.
- THUMBS UP to Frank Bennets for his Sinatra style send up of Current
Affairs shows.
- THUMBS DOWN to Ann Peacock and Michael Kroger, the Crown
Casino celebrity couple from Hell for just turning up.
- THUMBS UP to Bernie Fraser (the baldy superannuation guy) for poking fun
at himself.
- THUMBS DOWN to the non-attendees. We noticed your absence.
- THUMBS UP to New Idea and the organisers for high profile awards
that recognise our sports stars.
Quote of the night:
"I must say, it's great to see all the fantastic Australian films being made right
here" - Kimberly Davies (who seemed unaware that Australian films are actually
made in Australia).
