Last week's Hey Hey It's Saturday (on 21 Feb) nearly became Hey Hey It's Sunday Morning.
Scheduled to finish at 8.30pm, it was closer to 8.45pm when the credits zipped by. Although it is not uncommon for a live show to run overtime, "Hey Hey" seems to be getting progressively worse with its timing.
Daryl Somers was running around breathless trying to get through all the
regular segments and special guests who were scheduled to appear. Dazza
tends to jabber on a bit when the clock is against him, and his mouth moves
quicker than his brain.
Why not just make it a 2 1/2 hour show and relax the pace a bit?
Guests on this week's show (28 Feb) include UK supergroup Oasis, and this should make for some very interesting live television (unless it's just a boring pre-recorded interview with Molly).
Hopefully, the eyebrow twins will perform; and if they perform their latest
single "All Around the World", then you can expect Hey Hey to finish even
later, as the song clocks in at nearly 9 minutes in length.
A few months ago when they played on Late Night with David Letterman Oasis appeared reserved, and all but ignored host Letterman when he came over to shake their hands after their song. Letterman, who usually has a wonderful rapport with his guests, was still grumbling about their attitude after the next ad break.
So, Oasis on Hey Hey could be a big TV highlight. Will they enter into the spirit of things or act like prima donnas? Will Blackers make fun of Liam Gallagher's accent as he did when Molly screened an interview clip
last year? Will they sing to a backing track or live? Will Noel Gallagher drop a four letter word or punch out Plucka Duck? Will they even bother to turn up?
I'll be watching!
