Spin City marks the return to the small screen of
Michael J. Fox who stars as Michael Flaherty, the fast-talking,
deputy mayor of New York who presides over a staff that seems
more like a dysfunctional family than a group of workers. The
series will make its premier on the Nine Network on Tuesday, July
15th at 9:30pm. Also starring are Barry Bostwick as the ambitious
Mayor Randall Winston, Alan Ruck as Stuart, Flahertys
right-hand man, Richard Kind as Paul, the press secretary
whos perennially out of the loop, and Carla Gugino as
Ashley, Flahertys sharp girlfriend who works for the enemy
camp, the media. Spin City is the first program to be
screened by Nine as part of its distribution deal with DreamWorks
SKG, the Hollywood studio set up by Steven Speilberg, Jeffrey
Katzanberg and David Geffen.
Pearl will also premier on Nine following
Spin City on Tuesday, July 15th at 10pm.
Pearl stars Rhea Perlman (of Cheers fame
and the wife of funnyman Danny DeVito) as Pearl Caraldo, a
blue-collar widow and loading dock manager by day whose life
takes a severe turn when she is accepted into a prestigious
university. For you more astute fans of the movies, the basis for
this sitcom will remind you of the wonderful movie
Educating Rita. Oh yeah, the show was not renewed in
the States for the upcoming season. Lets see if Nine runs
the full complement of the series in this time slot or relegates
it to mid-morning or very late night status.
Last weeks column detailed Suddenly Susan.
Both Susan and Spin City have been renewed for
the new season in the States. Somebody At Ten Must Be Listening
In answer to the many letters and emails to the various
television newsgroups, the Ten Network is screening both
Hercules and Xena on Saturday.
Hercules will take the 6:30pm time slot and will be
followed by our favourite female (I apologise to you feminists in
the reading audience but what else do I call her?) hero,
Xena at 7:30pm. Looks like Flipper has
been given the flip!
