New digital rules 'a win for consumers'Wednesday 22 December 1999 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
The Australian Consumers' Association (ACA) has expressed its support for the Australian Government's digital television rules.
According to the ACA, the sole adoption of a high definition television (HDTV) standard would have restricted viewer access to digital TV.
ACA spokeswoman, Mara Bun, says that Australian consumers can now participate in new technologies at an affordable entry level.
Bun is critical of restrictions upon interactive services, which she says were imposed to protect existing commercial television stations.
