If you thought Dennis Franz was starting to shed a few pounds last year, you were right. Franz wasn’t
doing it as part of his character, Andy Sipowitz, as many suspected. Turns out Franz started a low-carb,
high-protein diet late in the season, stuck with it, and has shed a total of 35 pounds.
The change has already affected NYPD Blue before shooting has even begun. Not surprisingly, Franz’s
entire wardrobe had to be refitted. When production does start, look for a lean and mean Sipowicz to get
a new love interest, and maybe even do a few nude scenes.
Ugh.
