LONDON (Reuter) - "Mr Bean," the ultimate disaster movie about a clumsy English buffoon, has topped $100 million in box office receipts around the world -- and it has still not opened in the giant North American market.
The film, starring comic Rowan Atkinson, opened in Australia in July. It went to No. 1 in Spain, is Serbia's highest-ever grossing film and was the biggest success of the year in Norway.
"We are delighted with the fantastic box office performance of 'Bean,'
which shows that this crowd-pleasing film is successful on its merits
worldwide," Aline Perry, President of PolyGram Film International, said in a statement Wednesday.
The film, scripted by "Four Weddings and a Funeral" screenwriter Richard Curtis, is due to open on Nov. 7 in the United States.
