The uncoupling of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid has officially begun.

Just two weeks after publicists confirmed their "mutual and amicable" split, Quaid has filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences".

The actors, who have been together for nine years, were thought to be one of Hollywood's more enduring couples. Recently however, tabloid stories have been circulating about the couple's indiscretions, including Ryan's apparent romance with Russell Crowe.

Quaid is asking for joint custody of their eight-year-old son Jack.
