Premiering on Channel Nine on Monday August 11th at 8:30pm is the new murder mystery series created by Jennifer Rowe and Southern Star’s Hal McElroy.
Murder is the ultimate crime. It touches the lives of ordinary people, casting its long shadow over the glossy cityscape and glamorous haunts of the sprawling metropolis. For homicide detectives Tessa Vance (Lucy Bell) and Steve Hayden (Peter Mochrie), solving a murder is a journey from darkness into light. An urgent, vicious
confrontation with evil, a walk through the devil’s own world.
This is the way the publicists at the Nine Network describe the new series in their Media Release. Starring Lucy Bell in her most exciting television role to date as Detective Tessa Vance, and Peter Mochrie, one of Australia’s most popular television actors, as Detective Steve Hayden, Murder Call is Australia’s first whodunit drama series.
A fine supporting cast has been assembled to help Tessa and Steve solve their cases. The brilliant forensic pathologist Dr. Imogene “Tootsie” Soamses is played by Glenda Linscott; eccentric forensic expert Detective Senior Sergeant Lance Fisk is played by Geoff Morrell and crime scene photographer Constable Dee Suzeraine is portrayed by
Jennifer Kent. Overseeing all of these characters and cracking the whip is Detective Inspector Malcolm Thorne played by Gary Day, who is described as a disciplined and ambitious boss who can charm the devil himself.
In true Agatha Christie style, the hear of every episode of this 22-part series is a bizarre homicide. Armchair detectives will enjoy picking their way through a feast of suspects, alibis, clues and red herrings to find the hidden truth.
As the network says - Murder Call is more than solving crime. It is the truth behind the mask, the ordinary thrust into the bizarre. It is mystery of a big city.
I guess it will be up to the viewing public to see if this is true or if the hype of the show turns out to be more than the show itself. Personally, with Nine backing the show and the likes of Hal McElroy and the wonderful writer Jennifer Rowe on board, I tend to believe it will be a hit. It’s time slot has already been warmed by Water Rats another Hal McElroy production.
