MTV Keeping It RealMonday 9 August 1999 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
It wasn’t long ago when MTV was facing some serious criticisms about its programming. In short: too much talk, not enough videos.
Well, the network founded on the video has gone back to the video, and found that shows such as The Real World, FANatic, and Say What? Karaoke, are striking
a chord with viewers.
The appeal of real shows like World, FANatic, and Karaoke is that they give viewers the opportunity to participate directly in contests, and more importantly, to be a part of the programming itself. The investment has paid dividends. MTV is now the top cable channel for the 12-to-34 audience, and has seen growth over the past seven quarters in a row.
