A few strange things happened at the Logies. Today we clear up a couple of the mysteries.
WHY DID SOME GUESTS SAY 'SAUSAGES' ON STAGE?
In her acceptance speech for Most Popular New Talent, Brooke
Satchwell from Neighbours, made some cryptic comment
about sausages. She even admitted that she didn't understand why she had to
say it.
Later in the evening, Jane Kennedy from Frontline also blurted out the word sausages in her acceptance speech. So what was this in-joke all about?
It all began with comedian Dave O'Neil, a regular on the sketch
comedy show Bana. One of O'Neil's recurring characters
was a goofy looking guy who would turn up at auctions, or other formal
functions, and yell out "Sausages", for no apparent reason.
Enter Tony Martin and Mick Molloy from the Martin/Molloy radio show. This character was very much to
their liking, and they decided to promote O'Neil for the Most
Popular New Talent Logie, just so he could get on stage and yell (you
guessed it) "Sausages".
When O'Neil failed to make it as one of the final nominees, the
three hatched a plan to get as many Logie winners as possible to say
"Sausages" during their acceptance speeches. It was all just a bit of
silliness - but good fun.
Now can somebody please explain this to Brooke Satchwell.
DID SOMEBODY MAKE A RUDE GESTURE BEHIND KERRI-ANNE KENNERLEY'S BACK?
When the Gold Logie Nominations were announced, the cameras all turned on
the nominees.
Dylan Lewis, the host of Recovery, was sitting at the table behind Kerri-Anne Kennerley. When the camera
turned towards her, it also caught him in the background. As her name was
mentioned, he raised his hands to applaud, gave the camera a quick
one-finger salute, and then masked the gesture in a handclap. He then
raised a cheeky eyebrow at the lens. If you taped the show, have a look at
this segment again and you'll see it.
There is, however, one mystery yet to be solved.
WHO BECAME MATT LEBLANC'S NEW FRIEND?
Matt LeBlanc may have dive bombed on stage, but it appears that he
was very popular with the ladies at the after show party.
According to the Herald-Sun, actress Sophie Heathcote became friendly with him at the bar and they exchanged phone numbers.
However, Steve Vizard, speaking on The Squirrel Grippers radio show on MMM-FM, had this to say about the female
attention LeBlanc attracted:
"There were a lot of people throwing themselves at him. It wasn't limited to networks, nor was it limited to soapies. There were a couple of major current affairs-type reporters going in for it, a couple of very well known drama performers going in for it, and at one stage a very well known male drama actor went for it".
