Channel Nine won the concert wars with their broadcast of Tour Of Duty – The Concert For The Troops.
In a cruel blow to Channel Seven, who supplied the actual footage, Nine’s concert was watched by an average 1,523,000 viewers nationwide, compared to Seven with 1,513,000. A combined total of 3,037,000 watched the unique concert around Australia.
In Sydney, Nine was the viewers’ first choice, attracting an average of 431,000 compared to Seven’s 381,000.
In Melbourne, Nine averaged 505,000 viewers to Seven’s 463,000.
The concert featured the talents of John Farnham, The Living End and Gina Jeffreys, while Kylie Minogue stole the show and the soldiers hearts with her sex-kitten routine.
