Idiot Of The Week : Rosie O'Donnell

Tuesday 25 May 1999
By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.

Hypocrites make great punching bags

Retaining Water: Rosie, above, trying to suck in her cheeks
It may seem a bit obvious to make Rosie officially our first Idiot of the Week, but when we learned she had the lyrics to "Annie Get Your Gun" changed we couldn't resist.

Before the song was to be performed on her show, the performers were asked to change the lyrics, removing a reference to shooting a gun because when people even hear the word gun, they tend to go on killing sprees.

This is getting maniacal.

Meanwhile, Rosie endorses Kmart, the largest distributor of firearms in the United States. But it's not entirely this hypocritical fact that has secured her spot on Idiot of the Week. While hypocrisy is a dangerous thing, we find it entirely appalling when celebrities use their status as a soapbox to spew out their political agendas.

It's kinda like when the Beastie Boys (who we love) started in about Tibet after they won a lifetime achievement honor at the MTV awards.

We like the Beastie Boys because they're good rappers and we forgive their faults because of this.

Rosie, on the other hand, can go straight to hell and take her crappy show with her because she sucked to begin with. And now she's using her talk show to bash everyone who has so much as uttered the word "gun," but at the same time she continues to collect her checks from Kmart.

If she were as serious about the issue as she claims, and if she wasn't just trying to get rating points by jumping on the Columbine bandwagon, she'd flat out quit her gig with Kmart.

Loser.

(You gotta person we should feature as Idiot of the Week, PLEASE SHARE. ). We'll be doing this every Monday.
