Over two and a half million viewers nationally tuned in to farewell Daryl Somers and Hey Hey It's Saturday on Saturday night after its 28 year run on Australian television.
In its home city of Melbourne, Hey Hey achieved its largest audience, scoring 40 (1,084,000 viewers). It was the highest rating primetime TV show in Melbourne this year.
Hey Hey's farewell show took GTV9 to its best week for 1999 with a share of 49.8, 15.8 points ahead of Channel Seven.
Around Australia, the show won its timeslot. In Sydney, the show averaged 734,000 viewers, peaking on a 32 rating, Brisbane scored 395,000 viewers and a 33 peak, Adelaide had 284,000 and a 40 peak and Perth scored 239,000 and a 32 peak.
