Gumbel disses Couric in morning slamfestMonday 25 October 1999 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
The breakfast TV shows in the USA are hotting up infront and behind the cameras. Bryant Gumbel, formally of NBC's Today Show with Katie Couric, will go head to head with his previous show when The Early Show debut's on CBS next week.
In a report in Sunday's New York Times, Gumbel disses his former cohost Couric with "I've had one assistant for 18 years. Somebody who shall remain nameless went through five in five years. I had one makeup and hair person the whole time I was at NBC. Somebody who shall remain nameless went through three or four."
Gumbel also touches on his previous failed newsmagazine show Public Eye with an equally striking comment "You know, Katie had a primetime magazine fail under her."
If only Steve and Tracey had such problems (perhaps they do? email us!).
