Entertainer John Farnham has given his approval to the Nine Network to screen live coverage of tonight's Wimbledon quarterfinal matches involving Australia's Jelena Dokic, Patrick Rafter and Mark Philippoussis from 8.30pm.
Nine was originally due to broadcast the John Farnham 50th Birthday Party concert from Melbourne's Regent Theatre, honouring Farnham, one of Australia's most successful and popular entertainers.
Tonight's free "Street Party" in Collins Street from 6.30pm will go ahead as planned. Large screens have been assembled so fans can join in the celebrations taking place in The Regent Theatre.
The John Farnham 50th Birthday Party concert will now screen on Sunday, July 4 at 8.30pm, replacing the movie Diabolique.
Nine will cross live to Wimbledon at 8.30pm with play due to commence at 9.00pm. The first match will see giant-killing Sydney teenager Jelena Dokic play unseeded American Alexandra Stevenson for a place in the semi-finals. A qualifier, Dokic's run through to the quarterfinals has included victories over number one seed Martina Hingis (first round) and ninth seed Mary Pierce (fourth round).
During the Dokic/Stevenson match, Nine will also bring updates from the Patrick Rafter V Todd Martin match being played concurrently on court 13.
Wide World Of Sports will also screen coverage of Mark Philippoussis' quarterfinal against world number one Pete Sampras, the second scheduled match on centre court.
