Exclusive: Hugh Jackman Joins Cast Of X-MenTuesday 12 October 1999 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
Fans of Dougray Scott, he of the immense codpiece in Ever After, must be weeping today: Variety reports that Scott's role of Wolverine in Bryan Singer's X-Men has been re-cast, and will now be played by Australian actor Hugh Jackman. Variety reports that the busy Scott was unable to extricate himself from the Australian set of Mission: Impossible 2 in time, despite frantic schedule-juggling by the two studios. Word is that Scott was given an ultimatum: Be in the Wolverine suit, on the Toronto set, by October 18, or lose the role. So it's bye-bye Scott, and hello Jackman, who's being fitted for his tights as we speak. Although not a familiar face to moviegoers (he's appeared in a few Australian independent films), Jackman is an accomplished stage actor. Being the insiders that we are, we're proud to note that we have personally seen Jackman perform in a recent London production of "Oklahoma!" (oh, we get around), and can vouch that he is indeed a strappingly handsome fellow with a very pleasant baritone. Whether these qualities serve him well as Wolverine remains to be seen.
