*Once again Frasier scooped the pool (Best Comedy, Best
Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy Series). Will
this Kelsey Grammar sitcom ever hit it off with Australian
audiences? It doesn't seem to attract the same mass acceptance here as it
does in the U.S.
*The Practice won Best Drama Series. This show is a bit of a
dark horse, like Law and Order was a few years ago. It could
quietly attract a faithful audience in Australia now.
*Two shows that are big hits in Australia - Seinfeld and
Ally McBeal - went home empty handed.
*Late Night with David Letterman won Best Variety Series.
Unfortunately, in this country, it can screen anytime between midnight and
4am, and have segments taken out of it, if it gets in the way of the
tennis, cricket, informercials. Don't expect this win to improve the
situation.
*The day after the Emmy Awards, the Melbourne Herald-Sun
published a photo of Seinfeld's Jason Alexander standing next
to pop sensation Brandi. I'm not sure how close they are, but if
they ever marry, she'll become Brandi Alexander.
