The Nine Network announced today that it had secured the services of Eddie McGuire will into the 21st century.
"Eddie McGuire is a huge star and I believe he shares our vision that the Nine Network is the place to be," said Nine's Chief Executive Officer, David Leckie.
Co-host of Nine's top-rating The Footy Show in Melbourne and host of the enormously successful quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, McGuire will continue in these roles with other opportunities within the network to be considered.
It was widely speculated that the Seven Network was trying to sign up McGuire for its Olympic, AFL and news coverage.
"The time I've been with Nine has been fantastic. It's wonderful that in the prime of my career my role with the network has been secured and I'm very excited about what is ahead of me.
"Also the network has been behind my position with Collingwood Football Club one hundred per cent, which is great support," said McGuire.
Eddie McGuire joined Nine in 1994 (from Channel Ten) as co-host with Sam Newman of The Footy Show. He has become a multi-talented television performer, as a guest host on the Midday and Today shows, sports presenter with Nightline and Sports Sunday, and host of the opening telecast of Crown Casino. He also co-presented Nine's Commonwealth Games coverage last year.
