A gay rights group Friday criticized The X-Files' resident pottie mouth for the use of profane words in an interview with Esquire. The words ‘fag’ and ‘pussy,’ which are widely accepted in the
trucker community, are simply not acceptable if you want to avoid offending gay fans of
your show (note to Duchovny: gay people watch The X-files).
Normally we would not have a single problem railing on a group for being uptight, but in
this instance, we would rather rail on Duchovny, who should know better than to use that
kind of language in an interview. You don’t see us using that kind of language and we’re
borderline-delinquent-vodka-drinking-self-proclaimed-sociopaths (except for the lovely Leah, of course).
"I always feel, when somebody calls you a star, it's like they're saying 'fag,'" Duchovny
spewed in the latest Esquire magazine issue, adding, "You know what I hear when somebody
says 'star'? I hear 'pussy.' I don't know why." Neither does anyone else, Dave.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) expressed disappointment
with Duchovny’s juvenile remarks. The group had nominated the actor for one of its media
awards when, playing himself on The Larry Sanders Show, Duchovny revealed a crush on host Garry Shandling. It was one of television's funniest moments.
Now, he’ll be lucky to get the Idiot of the Year Award in 2000.
"Mr. Duchovny's juvenile remarks stand in sharp contrast to some very clever,
interesting and diverse roles we've seen him play in the last several
years, and we are disappointed," said Joan Garry, GLAAD's executive director,
while ripping an X-Files poster in half.
In his next magazine interview Duchovny probably plans to call himself a ‘pig’
and ‘a doughnut eating slob’ thus offending millions of police officers.
Can you say "use of excessive force," pretty boy?
