Democrats may delay digital TVThursday 23 December 1999 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
The Australian Democrats announced their intention to review new digital television rules yesterday.
Vicki Bourne, Democrats broadcasting and media spokeswoman, says that the rules need proper consideration and there is no binding reason why Australia must go digital in 2001.
Federal Communications Minister, Richard Alston, says that the proposals should be passed through the Senate in 2000.
Prime Minister, John Howard, says that he is not concerned by criticism from groups such as News Limited about the datacasting regulations.
