The late-night talk show ratings race in the USA hasn't been much of a race for quite a while. For the last three years, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno has been attracting more viewers than its archrival, Late Show with David Letterman.
But as CBS's overall network ratings have steadily improved, so have Letterman's. Though Leno is still way out in front, his lead on Letterman has decreased from 2.5 million viewers to 1.7 million viewers a night; Letterman is averaging 4 million viewers, and Leno is averaging 5.7 million.
