David E. Kelley's The Practise and Ally McBeal (seen here on the Seven Network) took out the major awards at today's 1999 Emmy Awards.
The Practise won best overall drama series for the second time, as well as best supporting awards to Michael Badalucco and Holland Taylor (both nominated for the first time).
Other winners in the drama category include Dennis Franz for NYPD Blue (best actor) and actress Edia Falco for the new gangster series The Sopranos.
It was a mixed bag in the comedy section with Kelley's Ally McBeal winning best overall comedy series. John Lithgow took out best actor for 3rd Rock From The Sun (his 4th consecutive Emmy and 8th nomination overall). Sitcom veteran Helen Hunt took out best comedy actress to keep her best actress Oscar company. The supporting nods went to David Hyde Pierce for Frasier and Kristen Johnston for 3rd Rock From The Sun.
