The WB plans to show the two-part season finale that depicts high school students arming themselves for the Ascension

Perhaps all the talk about network folks not having any sense is just that (at least in this case). Perhaps some of them do make more sense than Helen Keller on quaaludes. This may be going too far, but we're now certain that at least one person at the WB has a bit of a clue. The season finale of Buffy will air, even though the episodes will have students armed and ready to fight the Mayor's Ascension (the Ascension is, for those not in the know, the Mayor's ultimate plan to tap the dark energy of the Hellmouth to gain ultimate power).
"We are airing the episodes. There are no plans to pull them," said Julie
Kingsdale, a spokeswoman for the WB, and woman voted most likely to ignore
media hype by her senior class.
There was concern about whether the finale would air, as the WB pulled an earlier Buffy episode, "Earshot," because of sensitivity about the April 20 Columbine High shooting that left 15 people dead.
Kingsdale denied a story in the NY Times that reported network indecision regarding the finale, but gave no further comment. Ironically, the decision came on the same day President Clinton urged Hollywood to curb the violence in network programming.
We're thankful that we don't have to watch a rerun, when we should be watching a first run finale. So, thanks WB.
