The 2003 return of Big Brother attracted more viewers then the same launch last year, gaining an OZTAM approximation of 2.23 million viewers nationwide.
It helped Network Ten win the overall ratings for Sunday night.
Ten's other big hopes also scored well, with My Big Fat Greek Life attracting 1.47 million viewers and the premiere movie Billy Elliot was watched by 1.45 million people.
The overall standing for Sunday night had Ten with 31% of the national audience, Nine with 30%, and Seven far behind with 25%.
