98% of all Hollywood marriages end in divorce. That’s a staggering figure (especially when you consider we made it up). It’s not surprising that Agassi, who was surely the constant butt of tasteless Suddenly Susan jokes, couldn’t make it two years before tossing the star of The Blue Lagoon on the proverbial pile of discarded Hollywood rags.
The couple released one of those nicey-nicey statements to make us think the divorce was mutual saying, "we have the utmost love and respect for each other and will remain the
best of friends." Uh-huh.
Shields, 33, and Agassi, 28, wed on April 19, 1997, after four years of
coupledom. They were reportedly set up by Kenny G, which sheds a little more light on why the marriage didn’t work out. (The fact they were Kenny G fans makes us feel even less sorry for them).
According to E! Online, the couple has spent less time together lately. Shields has been in Los Angeles, and Agassi in Las Vegas and on the road.
The New York Post says Shields reportedly was "pressuring Andre to retire from tennis so they could start a family." Agassi, it would seem, isn’t down with that, and is probably looking forward to the additional time he will have to bang international models.
