The millennium-themed shows are startin' to heat up, and MTV has come up with a gem of
their own. Voting for the worst videos of all time is set to air on May 8th.
25 Lame, hosted by John Stewart, Denis Leary, Janeane Garofalo and Saturday Night Live cast member, Chris Kattan, will officially countdown the 25 worst according to the slurpy-crazed MTV viewership.
Winners will be selected according to the on-line votes that are cast at the channel's website, mtv.com (votes will be accepted until Friday).
Former Miami Vice star Don Johnson's 1986 video "Heartbeat," seems destined for banishment (it has the No. 1 spot to date). Chunky A's "Owww!" and Eddie Murphy's "Whatzupwitu" are at its heals.
MTV is torn on the issue of what to do with the horrible videos. "We're not sure how we're going to let them go, but I promise it will be something destructive," said Tom Calderone, a senior vice president at MTV who is overseeing the special. "We may shoot them into the stratosphere or we may just trash and burn them, but we will make sure they will never see the light of day again." May we suggest some sort of atomic device?
Some other notable contenders include, Los Del Rio's "Macarena," Hall & Oates' "Maneater," Toni Basil's "Mickey," "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice and Debbie Gibson's "Electric Youth."
Starting to notice a pattern? The 80’s was not exactly the golden years for music videos folks.
