As the reports go, David E. Kelley, the show's creator, introduced the idea to the network in an attempt to amass a larger fortune which he will no doubt spend on pony kegs, random items on ebay, and fish tranquilizers.
No one knows if the Ally over-dose will fly but Kelley hopes to put a half-hour version comprised of unused, rearranged footage, on Tuesday nights. An Ally McBeal Lite of sorts.
If this were the case, the show's production would have to work a tad harder but would end up making more money in the long run. Fox could also profit from the down-sized version of the show since it was one of its top grossers this season.
Fox will announce its Fall 1999-2000 line-up on Thursday and if Ally Lite doesn't fly, it could still show up mid-season somewhere in the Fox line-up.
David E. Kelley has almost reached his goal of having a show on every network and in some cases two on the same network.
