Akhtar's surprise return scores for NineMonday 10 January 2000 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
The Nine Network's telecast of the One Day Cricket last night attracted a peak national audience of 2,587,000 nationwide.
Yesterday, Shoaib Akhtar proved to be a trump card for the embattled Pakistanis who totally outplayed Australia, the one-day World Champions. Pakistan beat Australia by 45 runs.
Nine Network Programming Director, John Stephens said: "The Network was over the moon with the audience the match attracted, particulary taking into account it was a low-scoring game and Australia was beaten."
Across the network the coverage hit peaks of 737,000 in Sydney, 739,000 in Melbourne, 571,000 in Brisbane, 299,000 in Adelaide and 241,000 in Perth.
