Mike Munro's ACA days may be soon over.
According to industry chatter over the weekend, Nine's news hour will get a significant makeover in 2003.
The reasons are threefold - to fight off much stronger Today Tonight ratings, to replace the risky void left by Sydney's Brian Henderson, and to generally solidify Nine's image as Australia's news station of choice during the present world climate.
A Current Affair at 6.30pm will be the first to see the makeover, and it looks like Mike Munro will be the first significant change in the process of taking the show’s image upmarket. Possible contenders to replace Munro are Ray Martin, Paul Barry and former 60 Minutes reporter Ellen Fanning.
The new focus will apparently be on breaking news stories, world events and investigative reporting. We will see less wonder-diets, consumer road-tests and foot-in-the-door confrontations.
No official announcement has been made by Nine, although Ray Martin is expected to commence his hosting stint as early as this December, to cover any possible world events over Summer.
