ABC News
used to be untouchable. Whilst commercial news services get new sets and new graphics and (sometimes) new presenters on a yearly basis, our Aunty rarely gives it's news a Ricki Lake (makeover).
That's about to change. As of January 27, ABC's Sydney news bulletin with introduce a second presenter to it’s lineup. Joining Tony Eastley will be former CNN
newsreader Juanita Phillips.
Phillips previously held the weekend position at Channel Ten (remember her hair-do controversy of the early 90’s?). She then went on to work for CNN
in London.
The move will coincide with the move to the brand new ABC television studios at Ultimo next year.
Director of ABC News, Max Uechtriz has also leaked a new look will take place ‘over time’. This includes new sets, new graphics, and possibly a ‘refined’ opening theme.
But the changes may not stop at the Sydney office. Rumour has it that other states may follow. In Melbourne, several female heads have been thrown around to join presenter Ian Henderson. They include Ten’s First At 5
presenter Jennifer Hanson, and former Seven News
reporter Nicole Chvastek.
