In keeping with their charter to bring Australian productions to the small screen and nurture promising local talent, the series premier of Close Ups will air on Wednesday August 27 at 9:30pm.
A six part series, the show takes the viewer behind the facade of apparently ordinary lives to reveal a complex hidden world of anger, jealousy, madness, lust and revenge.
It's about the masks we wear in public and the darkness that can lurk behind each of us. These are lives under the microscope, close up and very personal.
The six half-hour episodes will confront, amuse and touch the viewer as we recognise something of our own lives in the stories and secrets revealed.
ABC TV has joined forces with some of the most exciting talent in the country to bring the series to fruition. The innovative program was produced in 1996 as part of a move into low budget drama and to experiment with new ways of story telling for television. The series was produced and developed with the assistance of the Australian Film Commission and the New South Wales Television Office.
Episode one Security stars Ben Medelsohn as Biz, with Rob Hunter as base operator (voice over) and was written by John O'Brien and directed by Scott Patterson.
Close Ups is an ABC TV Production with Sue Smith executive producer and Lisa Kitching and Wayne Berry co-producers.
