Australia's Nicole Kidman will walk Oscar's red carpet for a second consecutive year thanks to her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in the acclaimed drama The Hours.
Five other Australians nominated are spread across four categories - cinematography, sound, visual effects and short film.
Cinematographer Dion Beebe and sound expert David Lee, contributed to Chicago's 13 nominations.
Ben Snow was nominated today in the visual effects category for Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
Australian Film Television & Radio School graduates Steven Pasvolsky and Joe Weatherstone also scored nominations in the "best live action short film" category for their short film, Inja.
