In February this year in an article entitled "'98 Aussie TV Speculations"
(refer to the archive), I speculated about the future of some prominent
celebrities and programs. Now it's time to revisit those thoughts and see
what has actually occurred.
1. The Reappearance of Jo Beth Taylor
Well she did reappear, but only to tell us that she is doing okay and
having a fun surfing in Western Australia. No word as to a TV comeback, but
her clone Livinia Nixon is doing quite well on Hey Hey Its
Saturday and Kim Kilbey is the new face of Australia's
Funniest Home Videos, so even if Jo Beth did re-emerge, what
would she do?
2. The New Ding Dong Show
We didn't know the title at the time, but Denise, Denise
Drysdale's afternoon chat show appears to be doing quite nicely. Seven
took a gamble on her and it paid off.
3. The Anne Maree Biggar Mystery
Some mystery. She turned up as comedy relief on I.M.T.
4. The Footy Show vs. The New Footy Show
Live and Kicking was the eventual title of Seven's new footy
show and it arrived with a bang. The whopping ratings of its debut must
have given the team at The Footy Show a real fright, but
since then its audience has been gradually dwindling. Too many contests and
antics and not enough footy seems to be the loudest complaint. Will it
survive into 1999? If it does, expect some major reformatting.
5. The Revamp of The Price is Right
Some new camera angles, costumes and sets, but the same old games. Not
enough to save it. The Price is Right winds up after its
current season.
