The last of the major tournaments of the year will be held at the Winged Foot Country Club in Mamaroneck, New York. The 1997 US PGA Championship will be part of Nine’s ongoing coverage of international golf and is part of Wide World of Sports telecasts for the Australian public.
All four days of action will be telecast beginning with the first round on Thursday, August 14th (Friday morning) at 2:00am.
The 1997 US PGA will see one of the largest and most competitive international fields playing for the coveted Wanamaker Trophy, including the top finishers on the European Tour, Japanese Tour and the top 50 ranked players in the world.
Among the favourites will be defending champion Mark Brooks, 1997 Masters winner Tiger Woods, 1997 US Open winner Ernie Els, 1997 British Open Champion Justin Leonard, Fred Couples, Tom Lehman, Colin Montgomerie, Phil Mickelson, Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh, Nick Price and Davis Love III.
Australia’s hopes will rest with Greg Norman, runner-up twice in this event, Steve Elkington, winner of the 1995 US PGA, and Stuart Appleby.
